FAQ
Questions people ask first
If your question is not here, our support page has a way to reach a human.
What is Zumis?
Zumis is an African-first communication app: private chat, voice and video calls, Flicker short videos and communities in one place. It runs in your browser and installs on your phone.
Do I need to give my phone number?
No. You sign up with an email address or with Google, and friends find you by username.
Is it free?
Yes. Messaging, calls between Zumis users, Flicker and communities are free — you only pay for your own mobile data.
Will it work on a slow connection?
Yes. Zumis has a data-saver mode, sends small payloads, queues messages when you drop offline and reconnects calls automatically.
Can I edit or delete a message?
You can edit your own message for 20 minutes after sending it, and delete it for up to an hour.
How private are my chats?
Traffic is encrypted in transit, every record is access-controlled so only the right people can read it, media is stored privately, and you can hide chats and control who sees your profile and status.
Is there an Android app?
Zumis installs straight from the browser to your home screen and behaves like a native app, including notifications and background ringing. A Google Play listing is being prepared.
Can I call ordinary phone numbers?
Calling to regular phone numbers is being built and is switched off until it has been fully verified. Calls between Zumis users work today.
How do I report someone?
Open the chat or post, use the report option, and our moderation team reviews it. You can also block anyone instantly. The Safety Centre explains every control.
How do I delete my account?
Use the account deletion page linked at the bottom of every page. Your account and content are removed.
